Ion Molecule.
The ion is an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge. As the charge of the electron (considered negative by convention) is equal and contrary to that of the proton (considered positive by convention), the net charge of the ion is non-zero due to the fact that the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons. A cation is a positively charged nucleus with fewer electrons than protons, and an anion is negatively charged with more electrons than protons. Despite of their opposing electrical charges, cations and anions bind each other and quickly form ion compounds. Ions composed of a single atom are known as atomic or monatomic ions, whereas two or more atoms contain molecular ions or polyatomic ions.
